5,104 ascents to the summit by about 3,142 individuals; 12 people walked on the moon

I would rather be on the Everest on my own effort than be on the moon on behalf of a bunch of other people ¬¬ it would be just taking a ride there compared to climbing the freaking up that thing, with cold that freezes bones, with WAAAYY more possibilities of dying. It would be a true accomplishment, not just a space trip.

    • 10

      Jerry Jerryson

He's correct to a certain degree. That degree of course is being ignorant towards training to be an astronaut.

    • 2

      theTexan

Astronauts must have impeccable fitness. Their bodies must be able to withstand over 4 g's for an extended period of time during takeoff. That means if you weighed 200 lbs you would then weigh over 800lbs.

"Oh yeah, I'm such a bad-ass that I jumped onto a shuttle and rode on it until I got to the moon!", as opposed to "I met the wise Tebetan monks of the Himalayas and journeyed to the top of the largest mountain in the world, using only my climbing gear and with only my trusty guide DingDong to help me. Now, what was that you were saying about your little ride on a space shuttle?"

    • 10

      Brome Teks

Hey man, the space shuttle isn't the vehicle that goes to the moon. The Saturn V rocket stuffs you into a small 3 man pod, shoots you up at 4 g, sends you careening through multiple radiation belts, oh, and gets to the moon. Not to mention, the criteria to be an astronaut are far more stringent than being a mountaineer. Multiple Apollo astronauts were experienced test pilots (Armstrong had over 900 flights), and in addition, there were many things that had to be done manually on the Apollo missions themselves. Armstrong brought the Eagle down on manual control.

    • 0

      deadpoetic31

Well they kinda have balls to go into a small pod not knowing if you will actually make it to the moon and if you even get there, not knowing if you coils get back

    • 2

      Carter Paulette

How about YOU try going into a super-dangerous vacuum with only a space suit to protect you, something humans know only a little about, with a chance of possible death at any moment, bringing down the Eagle with twenty seconds of fuel left.

    • 2

      Walter Grimes

You clearly don't know the effort astronauts put in. They have lots of physical therapy every day. It's a lot harder to get in space then Everest. 12 people went to the moon. Thousands climbed Everest, which would it be? The first of a few or a first of many?

    • 1

      Flynn

Thanks for belittling the accomplishments of one of the most badass men that ever lived, while also simultaneously proving yourself to be a complete and total jackass. Astronauts go through intense physical training to reach the point where they can survive what the body goes through to reach the moon.

  • 4

Being the first person on the moon doesn't take a lot of skill, besides sitting in a rocket. Being the first to climb Everest requires a lot of preparation, fitness and perseverance. I'd feel like I'd achieved something incredible by climbing Everest

Well if you climbed everest then you would be on earth, but on the moon, you'd experience living with low gravity, exploring a new world and in general having lots of fun. Everest is just - well - cold. If you live to see other people do what you did, there will be more people that have climbed everest than visited the moon. You'll be one of very few people. It's obvious right? The moon is better y'all
