actualy freezing to death is one of the most painful ways to die. If i was in a burning building i would die from the smoke faster then the actual fire. If for some reason i was tied up and being burned its still way more likely the smoke would kill me.

Actually did you know that in the final stages of hypothermia you actually seem to become so warm that most people will take off their clothes

@abbi - but it would hurt A LOT. @Loopholemania - but hypothermia is dying from the cold...if you die from the warmth of hypothermia, it's hyperthermia. @E-C-Chris - and dying from a hot fire doesn't hurt like crazy?

Also, if you become frozen, you become an ancient artifact and MIGHT be resurrected in the future as your body is preserved. If you die in a fire, your screwed, nobody's gonna find you.

Symptoms of hyperthermia: sweating, weak, rapid pulse and breathing. As temperature rises and the hyperthermia progresses to heatstroke, it is impossible to sweat, and nausea and vomiting occur. Headaches, dehydration, dizziness and fainting may occur also. Then, you act like you're intoxicated, hostile and confused. As heat stroke progresses, blood pressure drops, and heart and breathing rate speed up. Eventually, you have seziures, your organs fail and you go into a coma and die.

    • 4

@abbi Not to burst your bubble but I don't think it means THAT heat. It most likely means the elements. So the ones who chose cold are per say freezing to death in the north pole. The ones who chose hot are slowly cooking under the sun of the desert without any water or anything like that to slow the process.

Freezing to Death... not as painful One quote by a Turkish poet whose father burnt to death said, ''Both are time consuming, but are common. From the cold, who but none see their flesh and skin brand from the cold, but then again, who see their body slowly turn to freeze and pain with the bite of ice'' Freezing, not so painful, but I prefer NONE

Hyperthermia involves your cells physically breaking down - instead of just ceasing to function. It never says you actually freeze - just that you die of hypothermia, which is purely to do with the cells.

I don't think people are educated in this. When you're brain reaches a certain temperature, it shuts down, however, when you go below freezing your body does some ahem unpleasant things to keep you alive

I know i chose hyperthermia, but when you're too hot you sweat, sweating are body's fluids coming off your body and keeping you a little more warm, and body fluids sadly includes urine, it isn't unpleasent? Sweat is horrible.

    • 5

Towards some of the later stages of hypothermia you get the sensation of burning and alot of people begin to take o there clothes. So either way you would feel a burning sensation whether hypothermia or hyperthermia. But with hyperthermia you would die quicker.

Assuming i'd be thrown into a fire or getting hit with a blast of fire id rather that as it would be faster than going numb, losing fingers and toes and freezing

    • 4

Burning is a horrible way to go. The way I imagine the hypothermia is going numb slowly, getting hallucinations, and eventually falling asleep as I shiver uncontrollably, which is something I'd take over being burned alive.

    • 6

It's not burning to death. Hyperthermia is more like being stranded in the desert and your core temp getting to high. You would suffer from extreme fever.

Difficulty in speaking, sluggish thinking, and amnesia start to appear; inability to use hands and stumbling is also usually present. Cellular metabolic processes shut down. Below 30 °C (86 °F), the exposed skin becomes blue and puffy, muscle coordination becomes very poor, walking becomes almost impossible, and the person exhibits incoherent/irrational behavior including terminal burrowing or even a stupor. Pulse and respiration rates decrease significantly, but fast heart rates (ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation) can occur. Major organs fail. Clinical death occurs. Because of decreased cellular activity in stage 3 hypothermia, the body will actually take longer to undergo brain death.

To die from heat you need to reach internal body temperature of about 42 °C and I've been pretty damn close so I know what it's like. I've never experienced hypothermia though and, I guess out of fear of the unknown, I chose hyperpyrexia.

  • 2

The people on Titanic froze to death. The water they were forced to be in was about 3°C.In the middle of the night. Imagine yourself in that situation. You woke up by a loud noise. After a while you decide to get up, there is water on the floor. You can't get up to boat deck because first class need to be in the lifeboats first. When you can go up it's too late. Not enough room in the lifeboats and time is running out.

With hypothermia, you would technically be brain dead, and I'm an organ doner. Also, someone documented his hypothermic suicide (morbid, I know) and he started to hallucinate and feel warm right before he died.
