Wrong. That bone protrusion is actually the heel. Dogs, like most mammals beside primates, walk of their toes. The thigh and shin bones on dogs are shorter than their feet.

No they don't, you're confusing their ankles for knees. Thier knees are just closer to their body, but still facing the same way ours, all mammals, and all birds are. Grasshoppers have backfacing knees I guess, but we wouldn't have the legpower to jump like them. No all mammals knees bend the same way, most are closer to the body though, so for most the prominent leg joint is the ankle. Everything's still facing the same way though. Just look at a kangaroo skeleton. google it
