Being obese doesn't mean you're fat, just means you don't the right bmi.

I would rather be malnourished then work my way up to being thin than start out obese (which by the way means so much fat content it can have negative impacts.) and have to work my way DOWN to being skinny. I'd rather have a week of pain than a lifetime of slavery to my own weight.

if u are obese it means u r usually fat and it is a really bad deisea for ur body and it means u have rlly bad health so u could be made fun of for being fat and hard to get out of the habbit of eating bad food or you could be melnourshied and just get/ask for food (they never said u were poor and could not afford food) and then get back to normal health.

obesity is actually a possible result of malnourishment (fatty and high sugar diet), but obesity can be more permanent or harder to fix (genetic predisposition, shitloads of exercise and cutting of food intake, etc) than malnourishment at its early stages, in which you only have to adjust your diet. easy choice.

just to make things clear: malnourishment can also mean an excessive intake of a certain food group (and less of another). doesn't always imply starvation. the proper term here is 'undernourishment'.

But obese is measured by bmi. You can be healthy with a bmi that says you are obese. You can not be health if malnourished. You are correct. You can be malnourished and obese. But it is easy. You can be healthy and be obese. You can not be healthy and malnourished. Easy choice. Surprised you got it wrong

malnourishment isn't just 'not eating enough' such that if you started eating you would be fine. Its a lot worse than that, it leaves you weak, it stops you developing properly, it leaves you with permanent illnesses and problems. That's the trouble with places where malnourishment is a problem, its not something that will just be rid of straight away if you provide them with food, there are long lasting consequences that people will be needing medical treatment for for a long time after they start eating.

I meant that you wouldn't be malnourished very long. Start at malnourished, and fix your nourishment.

People who suffer from the disease anorexia over long periods of time eventually become extremely malnourished. Brittle, weak bones, etc. Its not something you can cure over night by eating a few vegetables and fruits. The process actually takes years. However with an obese a person you don't have to be 300 pounds to be obese. You can way 190 or 178 it all depends on your BMI. You can easily loose a few pounds or a few hundred pounds with exercise, training, eating right, and daily commitment. But returning your body back to shape when your malnourished is way harder.

This is very much the case. Both are huge health concerns. Obesity is much less so. Just reading WHO the number of people that die from obesity related illness a year is extremely lower than those caused by malnourishment. Malnourished people will have long term issues after fixing that. Obese people will too, but at a lower rate.

Starvation and malnourishment are not quite the same. Malnourishment means you get too little of at least one type of nutrition so much that it impact your health. It can be a vitamin, but you can have normal weight or even be obese at the same time

I agree with that, being fat over skinny and miserable, was not the question. You can be fat an malnourished, miserable and obese, malnourished and happy, or a healthy weight and obese. Since you can be obese and healthy I picked that, since it is measured by bmi. Obesety is having to much fat. Which sounds bad and is bad. But they determine it by the body mass index, or bmi, which sadly is not a good math formula for determining obesity. You can easily find NBA players who are obese. Shaq is the most famous example. That is because he is very tall. Anybody his height, 7 feet one inch, needs to weigh under 260 pounds to be a healthy BMI. At 310 pounds a person that size is obese. Shaq had a playing weight well over that. You can say when he was a Celtic he was not in his best shape, but obese is insane. During his career he was always above 310. He played every season as an obese man. Being obese is not always a measure of health. Malnourishment is always a measure of health. Since obesity is measured by faulty method I would pick that. I would be obese at 225. I could live like that for years with no health issues.

No. You can be both. You can be very healthy and have a BMI that says you are obese. The way they determine obesity is by a faulty system. Obesity is to much body fat. The issue is they determine it by something that does not measure body fat.

It's a choice to be fat more of the time. To be malnourished isn't a choice as it could be due to poverty so it's sad that more people would go for something that people in the real world have no control over.

  • 1

The average Body Mass Index has increased (thus, more people are now considered Obese who weren't), Obese is a general term. You could be Obese and weigh 5-10 Pounds/Kilos over your "ideal" BMI.

Jello, stfu. No one cares about you in your fantasy castle looking down on us because we're slightly different. (Hitler was the same) you think we don't have feelings because we have slightly more body. Only one difference resides between people like me and retards like you (as this is aimed at you all) we, actually have a kind soul with friends family and a life. So I'd shut up if I were you.

  • 1

You can see it like this. The first being how skinny required to die. Middle being normal. Right one how obese required to die. ! ! !

  • 1

    ailsey

I think that the effects of each condition are equally devastating, but I chose blue because people and society are much more kind to skinny people than to obese people. If I were morbidly obese, there's bound to be people saying "ew, why do that to yourself?" And "I would never let myself get that fat". But if I was too skinny, people would have more pity and sympathy. It's unfair and sad, but true
