I actually would like to be in the middle. Not capitalist in the terms it is working nowadays (is disastrous) , but more like the first liberalism and with the wellfare state of keynes. The Soviet Union just went through a world war, a revolution and the leader of its revolution dyeing of a stroke. I would think that the Soviet Union was pretty disorganized at the time. And after a tyrannical dictator (Joseph Stalin) took over and created what was basically totalitarianism. He then killed Lenin's world revolution and created his quest for world domination. So communism really only lived as long as Lenin was in power. With that said, Just look at all of the failed democratic revolutions, throughout history. Democracy has had try after try to get it right, when communism had only had one. So if you think that "communism is great in theory but would never work" I say "if capitalism is so great, then why did t take so long to get it right!?"

Actually, even liberalism is skewed in major ways people who don't study it all their lives don't see because the people in charge of it are in charge of all the media and use scare-tactics to keep the rest in line. Especially the courts, which is the worst part. True communism can't exist just the way true anarchy can't exist - someone always comes out on top. Human nature doesn't allow true communism. Also, first, look at communist countries: none were succesful, even the ones that came close - corruption always wins and everybody not in power suffers. The best/strongest is a theocracy (Rome, Greece, Arabs, Israel) who all last several thousand years. Democracy can't exist for the same reason as anarchy. Republics (yes, USA is one- check the pledge of allegiance, even) last for a long time and are very strong unless corrupt. Monarchies/aristocracies/dictatorships/"Democratic Republics" all don't work because the people suffer and the government undermines the society. The problems still exist. Look at it this way. If you are a farmer and you are told by the government to farm corn and you will be given everything you need to survive, you say ok cool and farm corn. Soon you realize that you get the same amount of money (or necessities) no matter how much corn you harvest. You stop worrying about the pests destroying your crops and you do not care about the recent droughts and you give less and less corn to the government and receive the same amount of sustenance in return. All farmers realize this along with all of the other workers and artisans. Soon the government is not getting enough supplies/food to support its people. "Oh No! a rebellion! We must repress it or we will lose power." Due to this, it is impossible to have a communist government without an oppressive government. Not to mention you're all starving to death thanks to the farmer's with no more ambition. Therefore this entire question is invalid.

Communism can work and will be more effective in the future allowing for a communist country where the government doesn't need to control as much. For example if a country has to produce everything from food to appliances it will be hard for the government to keep track whereas a true communist society has everything in the hands of the government and then hands local power to local authorities (I live in Britain so in this example each county would control its needs), also the advancement in technology will make it even more easy for a communist system to work, for example, 3D printers have recently been developed which in a few years will be available to the wider public, with this technology the people of a country can decide on what they want and get it when they want, this will alleviate pressure on the government and the only areas that the government would then have control over would be the energy, transport, food, sewage, and other areas of government that are basically necessary for our modern lives. Just to finish off and to respond to anyone who says that it is not possible because it has never worked, here are two main reasons that communist governments haven't be able to do what they set out to do. Firstly the works of Karl Marx state that a country has to have had a good dose of industrial capitalism before it transfers to the final stage of human social evolution towards communism, as capitalism generates huge quantities of wealth but that eventually the wealth will be horded in the hands of a few, that governments will become corrupt and implement laws that benefit wealthy capitalists and will start to do more harm than good, this includes the socio-economic effects of a growing working class, high unemployment, rises in living costs, wage freezes and/or reductions, removal of state run corporations that benefitted the majority of the people (in Britain such as the rail and energy firms being privatised under Thatcher and the NHS which is slowly being privatised as we speak) and the constant barrage of economic downturns, busts, recessions and depressions. This will cause the working class to overthrow their oppressive capitalist class and establish a communist system in its place, but countries such as Russia, China, Cuba, Vietnam, Korea all had feudal systems where either a Monarch or a Dictator was in power and either had never experienced industrial capitalism or never had enough of it before they established a communist government, that is why they became state capitalist to overcome this mistake but without free market capitalism the idea was due to fail because the state still had a say in how most things were run, the system has to be in the hands of the people until it gets hijacked by wealthy minorities and then is placed in the states hands to benefit the entire population. Secondly true full blooded communism cannot be achieved before a world revolution. This does not mean every country in the world has to become communist but that enough strong wealthy countries become communist that they can resist any external attempt at toppling their system. Take Cuba for example which after declaring itself as a communist state it has had an attempted invasion, many planned invasions were made to topple the Castro government, endless assassination attempts on the Castro brothers and their ministers, covert operations such as a recent attempt by the USA to use a radio station to spread anti-communist and anti-Castro propaganda to the people of Cuba and a trade blockade with the USA that has crippled the Cuban economy and caused over a $1 trillion dollars in damage to Cuba's economy. So the point of having enough strong nations that can resist attacks like the ones I previously mentioned will allow the communist system and people to flourish and eventually surpass the benefits of capitalism which will ultimately result in people from capitalist nations overthrowing their capitalist governments to achieve the same level of personal equality and prosperity. Also as a final response to anyone who says that capitalism is a successful system and it is the best and benefits everyone who follows it, go tell that to a homeless person, someone who is starving in the streets, go to Africa and see how many people are suffering there from poverty (mostly because they HAVE to export their food in order to pay off their debts which can never be paid off because the interest on the debt keeps rising, and this causes people to starve to death even if they are growing food), go to Latin and South America where capitalism has encouraged the establishment of drug cartels and criminal organisations that kill and force people into work for a profit, the countless dictators that have been installed around the world because the previous government did not abide by the rules set by the world superpowers such as allowing western businesses to exploit their national resources and cheap labour and tax havens, the countless wars that have been initiated for profit and nothing more. And finally the problems within the United States itself, 13% of houses in the US are empty, most people of America will blindly follow their country into a war because of blind patriotism instead of facts, one out of five men between the ages of 25 and 54 do not have a job, the national debt of the US is the highest in the world at over $16 trillion and still rising, the US has more people in its prisons than anywhere else in the world with 716 per 100,000 people, this is higher than Russia (484) Cuba (510) Iran (284) and China (121 or 170). So capitalism has some flaws and quite major ones, so anyone looking to put down communism while waving an American flag shouting 'Merica should look into both of these ideologies equally and judge for yourself instead of choosing which one is best based on what your parents, family members, friends and/or the media tell your, because they will give you an opinion and not facts.

Communism has NEVER worked out in ANY society EVER. Look what happened to the Soviet Union, Vietnam, even China! Anarcho-communism is the best, but Marxist-Leninism follows as a close second, as long the sanctity of the peoples' council remains (the soviets). Communism has nothing to do with secret police crap, it's an economic model, not a set of laws. Stalinism is nothing more than red-faced fascism; effectively highly centralized state capitalism.

Not true at all. I know many people who used to live in the Soviet Union. They chose their jobs, had different salaries, and were pretty happy.

Capitalism works by effectively enslaving the 99%. Instead of being given a home and food, you are given tokens (money) to exchange for those things. Communism doesn't work, but it's closer to the ideal than capitalism. We need to adopt a global resource-based economy (Google it) and instate true equality throughout humanity.

Equal opportunity and equal outcomes do not mix. Capitalism is more equitable than communism, in which the big guys (the government) get all the money, where the "99%" get the same, yet very small amount of money. Truly communism is a fair and compassionate ideology.
