I'd make a fortune when I decide to write an 8-part novel series about wizards.

Religion is considered non-fiction. That doesn't make it fact, but the Bible would still be around.

  • 7

    Violet Howard Vaugha

Hmmm. Banishing religion along with all other written culture, or setting everybody back to the dark ages. Not actually that tough a choice.

  • 6

    Avery

My first thought was to destroy all fiction, because knowledge is power, and must be preserved. But the more I thought, I changed my mind. Because fiction is ideas, ideas unique to the writer and the writer themselves. It helps display other's points of view, and their thinking, which would be lost as soon as the writer passes. Non-fiction is facts, and facts are forever. The speed of light doesn't change, and neither does such important facts. We will be forced to remember such things, bettering our self reliance, and eliminating the need to preserve it, but instead preach it.

    • 3

      Primus

There are many dangers to that. We may not remember an equation that could be devastatingly important for the future, while we can always rewrite fiction.

    • 3

      ImRil

it would take us a long time to rediscover every single fact, and there is knowledge we cannot discover anymore (extinct animals that were alive in the last 100 years) while we could always just rewrite fiction. In addition when we destroy fiction we destroy christianity, which, as an atheist, I approve of.

    • 2

      Fus-Ro-Dah

@ImRil: The Bible is not fiction. Non-fiction and Fiction are not the only two categories of writing, they're simply the biggest. The Bible is in the Religion section of the Library. Also, the only religious book I would approve to disappear is the flying spaghetti monster. Even if you don't like the message, surely something that promotes acting kindly towards one another is a good thing.

I'm not saying that the Bible isn't fiction or nonfiction. If we got rid of all the fiction books and Bible still existed, that would mean that it is nonfiction. If we got rid of all the nonfiction books and it still existed, that would mean that it is fiction. Either way, that would mean we would finally be able to know the truth. We also need nonfiction so we can have true information to rely on.

As much as it pains me to say this, destroying nonfiction would KILL society, since this includes things such as how to build power plants and everything ever written about how to program computers, ever.

The only thing I really read is Harry Potter. J.K Rowling could easily re write all her books and then she'd be a hellf of a lot more richer, since most Harry Potter fans would most likely re buy the books. Everyone wins.

Because religion is causing people to do horrible things to others.
