Privacy Policy

Overview

Either (either.io) is a public would-you-rather game where people vote on questions, save favorites, submit their own prompts, and post comments. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Either you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.

Information we collect

Account information. If you create an account, we collect your username, email address, authentication credentials (including any passkeys or connected sign-in providers you choose to use), profile settings, and any avatar you upload.

Activity. We record what you do in the game — the questions you vote on and which side you pick, favorites, questions you submit, comments you post, and any reports you make. You can use Either without an account as a guest; in that case we create an anonymous session so your votes and favorites work, identified by a generated guest name rather than personal details. If you later sign in, your guest activity is merged into your account.

Technical information. Like most online services, we automatically collect basic technical data such as IP address, device and browser type, and log data used to operate, secure, and debug the service.

Optional demographics. If you choose to provide demographic information (such as an age range), we use it only in aggregate to show how different groups voted. Aggregated vote breakdowns are only shown when enough people are in a group to keep individuals from being identified.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, maintain your session (including anonymous guest sessions), remember preferences, and protect against abuse. These are necessary for the core functionality of the game. If your browser blocks cookies, some features such as voting and favoriting may not work.

How we use information

We use information to operate Either, show game activity and vote results, support accounts, reduce spam and abuse, review submitted questions, enforce our rules, measure and improve the service, and communicate with you about your account or important service changes.

Public content and moderation

Questions, comments, usernames, and similar contributions are public and may be visible to anyone. We reserve the right to remove, hide, limit, or reject content that does not meet basic public content standards, including harassment, bullying, threats, hate, sexual content involving minors, spam, illegal content, or other abusive or disruptive behavior. To report content, email abuse@either.io.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers who help us run Either — for example, hosting and database infrastructure, authentication, and the providers that power search and duplicate detection — under terms that limit their use of it to running the service for us. We may also share information when required by law, to protect users and the service, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Data retention

We keep account and activity information while your account is active and as needed to run the service. Inactive anonymous guest sessions that have no saved content are pruned automatically. We may retain some information after deletion when needed for security, legal, backup, or moderation reasons.

Your choices and rights

You can update your account details and profile settings, delete content you have posted, and request deletion of your account from your account settings or by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email privacy@either.io.

Children

Either is not intended for children under 13, the minimum age set out in our Terms of Service, and we ask you to confirm you meet it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and may ask you to review and accept the updated policy the next time you use the service.
