Reading fiction builds a rich imagination that purely factual reading cannot develop, making you more creative and emotionally fluent.
Romance novels develop narrative empathy and emotional intelligence in ways that dry technical material never does.
Imagination may ultimately be more valuable than accumulated knowledge—it is what allows people to create and innovate beyond what they've merely learned.

Only read textbooks

Textbooks provide real knowledge about the world—science, history, philosophy, mathematics—that forms the foundation for any meaningful creative or practical work.
Imagination needs raw material to work with; without knowledge there is nothing to build on, while knowledge alone enables both creative and practical problem-solving.
A lifetime of only fiction leaves you without real-world competence or understanding; textbooks at minimum give you the facts to navigate life.
