In a philosophical sense all living people are already dying — the room is simply a group of humans
Being present with others in their final moments offers a chance to provide comfort and human connection
You are alive and unaffected yourself, giving you agency and relative advantage rather than existential isolation

Be the only person in the big empty room

Solitude lets you rest and exist without the psychological weight of witnessing others suffer and die
Temporary isolation causes no lasting harm to anyone and ends without permanent damage
Watching many people die could cause lasting psychological trauma that simple isolation would not
Alone, you have the freedom to sleep, think, or entertain yourself entirely on your own terms
