Even hating someone does not mean wanting them dead - the relationship stays difficult but they remain alive, and difficult relationships can change
Forced proximity with people you hate is painful but survivable; death is permanent and forecloses any possibility of repair

Love your parents, but have them both of died a horrible gory death right in front of you

Loving your parents and losing them leaves good memories intact; resenting them constantly leaves nothing positive behind
Grief from loving and losing someone is painful but eventually eases; sustained hatred for the people you live with every hour is unrelenting
Constant forced proximity with people you despise creates its own lasting psychological damage, not just in the moment but indefinitely
